Each of the yarns in our collection carries a special touch of inspiration from the dogs who have graced our lives.
Just as these loyal companions have left their pawprints on my heart, their spirits dance through the textures of each skein, infusing warmth and character in each of your creations.
Explore our yarns below and unravel the stories woven with love, inspired by the dogs who have brought joy and inspiration to our journey here at Winston Fibres Co.
Bonnie
Bonnie (Bon-knee): is a leggy blonde who is always hungry for cheese or a little nibble of banana. Aside from food, her greatest joys in life are boat rides and searching for mushrooms at her cottage in Muskoka. Bonnie has a sniffer unlike any other and can scent a wild mushroom at 50 yards.
Bonnie is a people girl. She loves a good ear scratch and a short-lived zoomie.
Much like the yarn, Bonnie's coat is light and fluffy - like a cloud. She's one of the softest goldens I know. It was only fitting to use her name for our mohair blend!
Gertrude
Gertrude (Gur-trew-de): commonly known to us as "Gertie" was born February 4th 2020. She loves to play the blanket game with her mum and a fierce game of tug with her dad. Gertie is in LOVE with Winston (though, he remains aloof) and appreciates a good lay in the grass. Gertrude is one of the more talkative bulldogs Ive met with a WONDERFUL little growl and whine, shes very fun to play with, but she also loves a good snooze/ couch cuddle. Like most bulldogs, what Gertrude may lack in intellect, she makes up for in personality and affection.
Gertrude is a cuddly, squishy little ham of a dog - fitting for a squishy single ply.
Giddeon
Giddeon (Giddy-on): is an ex-racing greyhound and the first of his breed I've ever met. He was adopted years ago by my sister in law, and has since made an impact on all of our lives.
You'll typically find him laying on his bed, lip quivering with anxiety or, having a quick 2 minute zoomie across the backyard. Giddeon is a talented actor, faking injury often (false limps and long faces galore).
Much like the yarn, Giddeon is a hearty noodle. Sturdy. Build to last. Also, Giddeon wears socks, a classic sock weight felt fitting.
Bindi
Bindi (Bin-dee): is a boxer, just like her younger brother Barley! Bindi is the life of the party. If there is excitement, she MUST be a part of it. Bindi is a dogs dog. Though she loves pets from her humans, there is nothing more thrilling than a run down to the lake with whatever dog happens to be around (shes never mat a dog she didnt like). Bindi has a knack for getting even the tiniest of doggies to play with her. Come to think of it, her best friend at day care is a yorkie!
Bindi is a well behaved lady. Waiting for her snack after dinner (which she knows as "afters") patiently. She sleeps independently, like the grown woman she is.
Refined. Beautiful. Intelligent. This is Bindi. Much like our yarn base, she is soft as can be with her velour ears and dainty soft leggies.
Barley
Barley (Barr-leigh): is my dearest friend's dog and my-oh-my... what a handful!
Barley demands to be hand-fed and must sleep in the bed every night. He is the cuddliest "shmoofle" faced dog. He is handsome, and he knows it so he will use this to his benefit to distract you from the task at hand.
Barley is fiercely protective and an absolute love with humans. There is nothing more amazing to Barley than a new visitor or a smiling face.
This summer, we also noticed that during car rides with the window down, Barley's soul shines brightly. He loves to sit, chin on the window frame, sun shining on his snoot, pondering life in the breeze.
Barley was the inspiration for my worsted weight yarn as hes soft (velvet fur) and squishy (as a boxer, he has quite a lovely set of jowls).
