Wildflower: The OOAK Collection
Wildflower: The OOAK Collection
Colourway 3 for my OOAK Collection is “Wildflower”.
This guy is like a moodier version of my Hydrangea colourway in the Summer Collection and I’m in love. I feel like this would be a great base for a sweater (or of course, some very demure lil socks).
Much like the other OOAK colours, very limited quantities will be available in the collection 🥹
Happy crafting!
*Please note, though we do keep several of each dye lot on each base, yarns are often dyed to order. Please give us time to dye up your items before shipping commences. Yarns are typically dyed next day and will be shipped once the yarn has been fully processed and dried.
*dyes may bleed in the first few washes.
Yarn Bases
Bonnie: (437Y/400M) 50G. 70% super kid mohair/ 30% silk. Single ply; lace weight. Suggested needle/ hook: 2.75mm/ US2/ C2.
This yarn is a single ply mohair & silk blend, which means its great for a variety of projects! Looks great worked up on its own for an airy knit, or, paired with another yarn to create a floofy, smooshy garment or throw.
Tess: (459Y/ 420M) 50G. 75% baby sure alpaca/ 25% mulberry silk. Single ply; lace weight. Suggested needle/ hook: 2.75mm/ US2/ C2.
This yarn is a single ply suri alpaca & mulberry silk blend, which means it's great for a variety of projects! Looks great worked up on its own for an airy knit, or, paired with another yarn to create a floofy, smooshy garment or throw. (Alpaca is fluffier and sheds less than mohair, however, it provides a more dense "halo" effect when worked with another yarn)
Gertrude: (437Y/ 400M) 100G. 100% organic merino wool. Single ply; fingering weight. Suggested needle/ hook: 3.5mm/ US1-3/ E4.
This yarn is a single ply, which means its more likely to "felt" with consistent rubbing. Keep this in mind while designing your pieces. Gertrude has a great bounce and holds colours more vibrantly than super wash yarns. It may be more delicate, but man, is it beautiful.
Maisy: (434Y/ 396M) 115G. 100% superwash merino wool. Single ply; fingering light weight. Suggested needle: 3 mm
This yarn is a single ply, which means its more likely to "felt" with consistent rubbing. Keep this in mind while designing your pieces. Maisy has a much softer hand-feel than Gertrude, but, as it is a superwash it is much less likely to pill/ felt and therefore, less delicate in wearables. Maisy is super soft, super cuddly and VERY easy to work with. It's tightly spun and unlikely to split even with working with extra pointed needles.
Giddeon: (420Y/ 384M) 115G. 75% superwash merino/ 25% nylon. 3 ply; classic sock weight. Suggested needle/ hook: 3.25mm/ US3/ D3
This yarn is a very sturdy and easily washed yarn. So much so, you can even put it into your conventional washer dryer. This makes it great for socks - though a cold wash, no heat dry setting is preferred when washing your projects. Our classic sock is slightly chunkier than some other sock weights which means this yarn may be best suited for warmer pieces/ warmer weather. This said, it is very soft, quite squishy and makes for a very well executed piece. Also an easy knit for a beginner!
Bindi: (140Y/ 128M) 115G. 80% merino wool/ 10% super kid mohair/ 10% cashmere. Single ply; bulky weight. Suggested needle/ hook: 9mm/ US13/ M13.
This yarn is a super soft, super squishy single ply bulky weight. Though these yarns are easily felted, they work up GREAT in gently used sweaters or toques. This yarn is easily knit with and its' a joy to work. Quite a lot more yardage than comparable weights in other brands. One skein should make an average bulky weight toque.
Barley: (219Y/ 200M) 100G. 100% superwash merino wool. 4 ply; worsted weight. Suggested needle/ hook: 5mm/ US8/ H8.
This yarn is a 4ply yarn, which means its great for a variety of projects! A great squishy base for sweaters, hats, gloves and chonky knit socks. Our most versatile base!
Bazil: (219Y/ 200M) 115G. 100% superwash organic merino wool. 2 ply; fingering weight. Suggested needle: 3.5mm
This yarn is a 2 ply yarn that is both organic (in its treatment of the sheep) and superwash, which means its great for a variety of projects! Bazil is my softest yarn by a landslide. It's super squishy and a great deal considering the meterage. It has a good stretch and the most fluid drape when worked into knit pieces.
Ellie: (126Y/ 115M) 115G. 100% superwash merino wool. Single ply; super bulky. Suggested needle/ hook: 15mm/ US19/ P-Q.
This yarn is a thiccc (with 3C's). Very similar to other well-known hand dyed chunky yarns but at a more affordable price/ yard! This is an amazing fibre for hats and snoods/ scarves but can also be used to make a super chunky cardigan or sweater! This is a superwash yarn which is unique to this fibre, however, this is still a single ply and therefore may be subject to felting.
Cleo: (137Y/ 125M) 115G. 80% superwash merino wool/ 20% nylon. 2-ply; super bulky. Suggested needle: 9MM/ US 13
This yarn is a bulky two ply and super squish. It has a good amount of stretch and a good drape when used in clothing items. It is a great choice for most wearables including hats, mittens, slippers and other high-traffic wearables. With the superwash/ nylon base, you can think of this as similar to a sock, but in a bulky.
Piper: (280Y/ 256M) 115G. 75% superwash merino wool/ 25% nylon. 4-ply, DK weight. Suggested needle size: 4mm
This base is a hearty, well rounded fibre including both sw merino and nylon - making is squishy and soft, but also super stable and easy to work with. Great for children’s clothing or high wear items. Would also make a great pair of winter socks.
